There has been an increase of measles cases in Victoria and around the world.

Measles is a highly infectious disease that can cause serious illness, including pneumonia and encephalitis. Signs of measles include fever, cough, conjunctivitis and rash, especially in people who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated, or unsure of their MMR status.

The Victorian government is funding the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine to anyone born during or after 1966 without documented evidence of receiving two vaccines, or documented evidence of immunity. The MMR vaccine has been used safely for over 50 years worldwide.

People travelling should consider having the MMR vaccine if they are unsure of their vaccination status. Measles outbreaks are occurring globally, including in popular travel destinations such as Indonesia, New Zealand, UK, USA and Thailand and surrounding countries.
